NHS Eye Tests & Spectacles

You can have a Free NHS Eye Test if you:

-Are under 16 or under 18 and in full time education

-Are over 60

-Receive any of the following means-tested benefits:

Income support

Income-based job seeker's allowance

Tax Credits

Are named on an NHS exemption certificate

Pension credit guaranteed credit

-If you suffer from diabetes or glaucoma

-If you are 40 or over and are the parent, child, brother or sister of someone who suffers from glaucoma

-If you are registered blind, partially sighted or have a complex prescription

Anyone who is eligible for an NHS Eye Test and is housebound also qualifies for a free Home Visit.We currently provide NHS Home Visits to patients in all of County Durham and Tyne and Wear.

You will be eligible for free NHS Spectacles if you are in receipt of the above benefits or if you are a child under 16 or under 18 and in full time education.
